You need to go through your styles and modify them to have the correct settings. This latter point can make it look like the changes are not sticking. It is not, generally, an application or document setting. The proofing language is like a font attribute (Bold or Italic) in that it can be set in a single character. Locations (toward the end) to set your templates location to a folder on your computer. Try, under File > Options > Advanced > File Network version of Word? Is your normal.dotm template by chance on your network and changes blocked or the template rewritten on a regular basis by the network? The normal template should NOT be shared. I'm guessing this is what's going on because in the parts of the document that I created first, the word "Programme" is left alone (correctly) because that part of the document seems to be using UK English as the proofing language. I do not want to see English(Swahili or such). When in Outlook the spell check forces me to select for every word from between some 15 variants of English and similar number of French. It seems the pieces I have pasted in to this document refuse to change their default proofing language no matter how many times I change it for the document asĪ whole. My GUI is English(US), my spell check is English(US) and French(Fr). The document is a collection of several other documents that I have cut and pasted from. UK English and US English are both listed, but the US English option is checked off. When I go into the Options: Language tab, English (United States) is the default language. When I right click on it to select the proofing language, In Word, my AutoCorrect is spell checking in French instead of English, even though all my language settings are set for English (United States). For example, "Programme" is being underlined even though it is being used correctly. Here's the problem: some words are still being underlined in red as misspelled when they are not. If you use the Document object or Range, this is what's going to happen. If you're automating Word and checking text in Word, then the text you're checking has to be formatted with that language AND the required proofing tools must be installed.
